One of the most common questions that patients have about excess skin in their eyelids is what can be done about this? Excess eyelid skin on the eyelids or dermatochalasis is a very common condition where there is excess upper or lower eyelid skin. Often this can block the vision of patients and can cause a problem with how patients see. Here are some common questions that my Denver patients ask me about blepharoplasty or eyelid lifting.
Can anything nonsurgical be done to improve the excess eyelid skin I have?
The short answer is no. Only surgery can get rid of the excess eyelid skin permanently that one has on their upper eyelids. There may be procedures that can tighten the skin such as laser but they are unpredictable, risk problems with eyelid malposition and vision issues. Creams do nothing permanently and risk getting inside the eye and causing irritation. Only blepharoplasty or eyelid lifting can improve the extra skin permanently.
How long is the surgery?
The surgery to remove extra eyelid skin takes 30 minutes roughly to perform. Stitches are placed that are removed in one week.
How many surgeries on the eyelid does Dr Thiagarajah perform?
Dr Thiagarajah has specialized in eyelid surgery since 2009 and performs 10-16 eyelid surgeries every week. As an eyelid specialist his focus is upper eyelid and lower eyelid surgeries in Denver. He has taught other doctors the procedure and lectures on the procedure at meetings.
